Plants Vs. Zombies 2 is a strategy puzzle game. Popcap Games takes the winning formula of the original Plants Vs. Zombies and adds a whole host of new features, creating a game that's more iterative than it is revolutionary. The principle is the same. A seemingly endless horde of zombies is invading your lawn, and the only tools you have to stop it are a colorful collection of weaponized plants. The game plays out similarly to any number of tower defense games, forcing you to create a balanced board that takes into account the most common threats you're likely to face and allocate the right defenses.

An added layer of strategy comes in the necessity of resource management. While sunshine - the currency used to purchase all of your plants - is awarded over the course of each game, it's never enough to fully protect your property. Players are required to create a balanced roster that splits their resources between sunlight gathering sunflowers and more directly aggressive plants that can protect them. The sequel ups the ante on the typical Plants Vs. Zombies formula by adding in a number of new plants, threats, and modes, but the winning gameplay is largely unchanged.
